Autonomous work  (To be graded in the portfolio)

Individually and in your E-portfolio exclusively, you will show the evidence of the following exercises.

  1. Open your Market Leader book on page 67, then listen to the CD and do exercise A, B C and D.

What aspects of its culture do you particulary like?
 
I would like to live in Europe, in Italy or Spain.
 In South America, Chile or Argentina.
I like particulary the history of the countries, their roots.

Could you? When need a favor, is a polite way to ask a favor.

That sound good: When you agree with someone.

After you: Whenever you want someone to go first.

That’s no problem: Whenever some makes a mistake.

Bad luck: When something bad happens.

Not at all: Whenever you want to show that it doesn’t bother you.

 

F) Safe topics of conversation:

  • Keep it short; keep the conversation moving. Limit responses to 60 seconds or less.
  • Avoid opinion and emotion-evoking topics such as money, politics & religion.
  • Do not interrupt.
  • Do not finish other people’s statements.
  • If someone does or says something rude, ignore it.
  • Do not complain.
  • Do not criticize others.  Say nothing evil about common acquaintances, former bosses or coworkers.
  • Address a new acquaintance by his or her title and last name until you are invited specifically to use a first name.
  • All topics are important to me, I try to practice them.

  1. Reading: Cultural Shock.  Open your Market Leader book on page 69, then Read the article and do exercise A, B, C and D.

C) The course should cover: The course should cover: defining and understanding the concept of culture, different styles of communication,(both verbal and non-verbal), culture shock, the perception of the people outside of their country.

 

D) Some tips for people doing business in the UK is to have cultural awareness which is understanding, how and why cultures work differently. Take into account that colleagues from different countries may have different working and social skills as well as body language and ways of doing business.
